Welcome Letter:

Welcome to the 46th Engineer Battalion!

Fort Polk is a proud and enduring installation.  It is the world's finest Joint Combat Training Center for light forces and serves as a world class power

Projection platform for rapid deployment forces.  Fort Polk is home to many FORSCOM units like ours that make up the Warrior Brigade.

Located in West Central Louisiana, Fort Polk is approximately seven miles southeast of Leesville, LA.  This caring installation emphasizes a solid

foundation for "quality of life" programs in an area considered a "Sportsman's Paradise".  Outdoor recreation, hunting and fishing are excellent.  The Toledo

Bend Reservoir, located near Fort Polk, is the largest man-made lake in the South providing opportunities for hunting, fishing, boating and camping.

You will be assigned to one of the Battalion’s six companies and two detachments.  The unit you are tentatively scheduled to be assigned to will appoint a sponsor for you and you should be contacted by him or her very soon.  Meanwhile you should communicate with the sponsor that contacts you to arrange for everything you need done in advance to your arrival and to get responses to any questions you may have regarding the installation and surrounding communities' facilities, organizations, schools, medical, social and other services available.

On arrival to Fort Polk, you should report to the Consolidated In and Out Processing, Building 1830, Alabama Avenue, South Fort.  They can be contacted by calling Either DSN 863-2207 or commercial (318) 531-2207.  During non-duty hours, report to the Magnolia Guest House, building 522, Utah Avenue, South Fort.  The Guest House may be contacted at (318) 531-2941.

UNIT CREST:

46th Eng. Unit Crest

The battalion coat of arms was designed by the Heraldic Services and Historical Division of the Office of the Quartermaster General. Wearing of the distinctive insignia was authorized in October 1951. The insignia is shaped as a shield. Centered upon a field of argent (silver) is placed a railway spike to indicate the battalion’s initial destination as an Engineer Railway Maintenance-of-Way Battalion. A fleur-de-lis surmounts the spike as tribute to the service performed in France during World War I. Flanking these emblems are gules (red) to complete the colors of the Corps of Engineers. (In black and white reproductions of the crest these gules should be indicated as parallel vertical lines.) The complete coat of arms includes above the shield, a silver winged wheel, taken from the World War I insignia of the Transportation Corps. Beneath the crest is displayed to motto of the battalion, "To Achieve."
