CSM Alvaro E. Pertuz Jr. is a native of the greater New Orleans, LA area. He entered the Army in the summer of 1993 and was assigned to Ft. Benning, GA where he completed One Station Unit Training, Airborne Training, and the Ranger Indoctrination Program.

Upon completion of the Ranger Indoctrination Program in November 1993, he remained at Ft. Benning and was assigned to 3rd Ranger Battalion 75th Ranger Regiment. He was positioned in Bravo Company, and there served as a Riflemen, Grenadier, Squad Automatic Weapon Gunner, Platoon RTO, Fire Team Leader, and Rifle Squad Leader.

In March 2001, CSM Pertuz was assigned to the Ranger Operations Company at the 75th Ranger Regimental Headquarters. There he served as a Ranger Indoctrination Program Instructor, Pre Ranger Instructor, and Platoon Sergeant until December 2003.

Immediately following his service with the Ranger Operations Company, CSM Pertuz reported to 1st Ranger Battalion Hunter Army Airfield, GA. While assigned to 1st Ranger Battalion, CSM Pertuz filled positions as the Battalion Air NCO, Platoon Sergeant, Battalion Intelligence NCOIC, Battalion Assistant Operations NCO, and 1SG.

Following his assignment as 1SG, CSM Pertuz would return to Ft Benning in April 2010 and serve as the Liaison NCOIC for the 75th Ranger Regimental Headquarters.

In August 2011, CSM PCS'd to Ft. Bliss, TX and began his studies as a student at the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. Upon graduation in June 2012, CSM Pertuz remained at the Sergeants Major Academy and served as a Facilitator and Liaison for the Joint Special Operations Forces Senior Enlisted Academy until early December 2013.

CSM Pertuz is a graduate of Airborne School, Ranger School, Jumpmaster School, Pathfinder School, Jungle Warfare Course, SERE High Risk Level C, Special Operations Training Course, and All levels of NCOES.

CSM Pertuz's awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal (3rd award), Meritorious Service Medal (2nd award), Army Commendation Medal (7th award), Army Achievement Medal (8th award), Army Good Conduct Medal (7th award), National Defense Service Ribbon (2nd award), Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 bronze service stars), Iraq Campaign Medal (2 bronze service stars), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Non Commissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon (4th award), Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd award), Ranger Tab, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Pathfinder Badge, Senior Parachutist Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, British Military Parachutist Badge, German Armed Forces Parachutist Badge (Bronze), Canadian Military Parachutist Badge, Egyptian Parachutist Badge, and the Australian Commando Parachutist Badge.

CSM Pertuz is currently in pursuit of his Bachelor's Degree in Business Management with six classes remaining in order to earn his diploma from Excelsior College.

CSM Pertuz has over 21 years of service in the United States Army. He has deployed 8 times with 1st Ranger Battalion in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
