209th Military Police Company

LINEAGE AND HONORS

The 209th Military Police Company was constituted into the United States Army on 16 December 1940. The 209th was first called to service on 25 January 1940 at Fort Lewis, Washington, to prepare for security missions in the Far East and Pacific. After Pearl Harbor, as the Japanese ripped through the Pacific Theater, the 209th provided security for critical Allied air and sea communication installations and was later deployed to the Philippines to protect vital interests there. For its efforts, the 209th Military Police Company received the Meritorious Unit Commendation and the Philippines Presidential Citation. On 1 November 1970, the 209th Military Police Company was reactivated. In April 1988, the 209th conducted an emergency deployment to the Republic of Panama, returning in September. Its actions during this deployment, as well as its overall superior performance, earned the unit the BG J.P. Holland Award for 1988. On 10 December 1989, the 209th again deployed to the Republic of Panama. 10 days of arrival in country, the unit became involved in Operation Just Cause. In recognition of its performance in Operation Just Cause, the unit was award the Valorous Unit Award. On 7 October 1991, the company deployed to Saudi Arabia for Operation DESERT SHIELD. In recognition of its performance in Operation Desert Storm, the company was award two campaign stars along with two unit streamers. On 27 November 1991, the unit deployed to Cuba in support of Operation GUANTANAMO. In recognition of its outstanding service, the company was awarded the Humanitarian Service Medal. The Warriors’ supported the Department of Defense during the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. On 10 January 2003, the 209th Military Police Company deployed to Taszar, Hungary in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. From 23 April 2004 to 23 April 2005, the unit deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM V. from 30 June 2007 to 8 October 2008, the unit was deployed to Baghdad, Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In recognition of its outstanding performance during the operation, the unit was awarded two Meritorious Unit Commendations. From 9 August 2011 to 5 August 2012, the unit deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
