Survivor Outreach Services (SOS)

The goal of Outreach Services is to provide programs to foster a sense of belonging to the military community, to promote positive attitudes toward military life and enhance retention and readiness.  This is done by linking Family support programs to soldiers and Family members by informing, referring, and encouraging utilization of on and off post services.  The result will be to reduce isolation, stress and frustration frequently experienced by young military Families.

Outreach Services Classes and Activities

Toddler Play Time  Is a time for children to learn to play with other children, and parents to meet individuals with similar interests.  It is held Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:00 - 11:00.  This is a very popular activity with newly arriving Families.

Children’s Crafts  Twice weekly at the Toddler Play Time, we plan simple crafts for parent and child to complete together.

Holiday Celebrations  We observe Holidays with special crafts, pictures and parties.  These include Valentine Day, Easter egg hunt, Mother’s Day, Halloween party and the favorite Santa Party.

Information and Referral  Outreach Services maintains information on many military and civilian service agencies.   Information Pamphlets are available on ACS Programs.

Outreach Smiley Packets  The Outreach Program has formed a partnership with Picerne Neighborhood Offices to provide Smiley Packets to newly arriving Families when they sign for housing.  These same Smiley Packets are taken to Families living at both units of the Holliday Inn Express which is now the Temporary Lodging. Packets contain information on ACS Programs to include location and telephone numbers.

Adult Sewing Class  Each Wednesday from 1:00-3:00, a multi-level Sewing Class is provided.  We have sewing machines, thread and lots of material.  If you are a beginning sewer, come make something simple and see if you like to sew, before starting a more complicated project.  This class is free.

English–as-a-Second Language (ESL) Classes  We provide multi-level ESL Classes for Soldiers and Family members.  Each individual must make an appointment to register and take an entrance test.  If a class is available you may start immediately.  A Conversational Class was recently started and students in book level 3 and 4 may attend as well as anyone who has completed all levels.

Volunteers  An important part of Outreach Services – We train volunteers to teach ESL, work with the Outreach Smiley packets, and to service as Sewing Instructors.
