LTC Javier Lopez was commissioned an Armor Officer in 1999 following graduation from the University of Texas at Arlington. His first assignment was with 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, TX, from 1999 to 2002. There he served as a Tank Platoon Leader, HHC Executive Officer, and Battalion S4.
Following graduation from the Armor Officer Advanced Course, LTC Lopez served as the Assistant Battalion S3 for 1st Battalion, 72nd Armor, in Camp Casey, Korea. LTC Lopez was subsequently assigned to 1st Brigade, 25 Infantry Division (SBCT), Fort Lewis, WA, from 2004 to 2006, where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF 3), serving as the Assistant Brigade S3 (Plans).
Upon redeployment, LTC Lopez assumed Command of HHT/ 2-14 CAV, re-stationing the unit from Fort Lewis, Washington, to Vilseck, Germany then assuming command and deploying N Troop, 4-2 CR (SBCT). Following command, LTC Lopez served as the Regimental Chief of Plans while deployed with 2CR (SBCT) in support of OIF 5. Following his tenure in 2nd Cavalry Regiment, LTC Lopez assumed duties as an Observer/Controller and Trainer for the Joint Multinational Readiness Center, Hohenfels, Germany, from 2009 to 2010.
After completing the Army Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, LTC Lopez served as the Squadron Operations and Executive Officer of 2nd Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment, 4th Brigade, 2nd ID (SBCT) and subsequently deployed as the Squadron Executive officer to Afghanistan from 2012 to 2013 in support of Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF 5).
From 2013 to 2015, LTC Lopez served as the Brigade Operations Officer and Brigade Deputy Commanding Officer for 194th Armored Brigade, Maneuver Center of Excellence, Fort Benning, Georgia. He subsequently assumed duties as the Chief of Armor’s Strategic Initiatives Chief from 2015 until August 2016. LTC Lopez most recent assignment was as the Joint Readiness Training Center and Fort Polk G5.
LTC Lopez’ military training and education includes the Basic Airborne Course, Air Assault School, the Armor Officer Basic and Advanced Courses, the Cavalry Leader’s Course, the Combined Arms and Services Staff School, and the Army Command and General Staff School.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Commendation Medal (four Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), Air Assault Badge, Parachutist’s Badge, and Combat Action Badge.
